This weekend, we had an amazing time with the students and organizers from Access Granted Youth Exploration (AGYE). AGYE is dedicated to promoting teenage personal development through technical and soft-skill training, community service, and international expeditions. Their comprehensive training programs equip teens with the skills necessary to thrive both personally and professionally.
Healthy Food Community Walk Audit
We joined the students for a Healthy Food Community Walk Audit, where we explored ways they can advocate for improved spaces in their neighborhood. Walking around Silver-Hill Road, we assessed the area for various walkability conditions, such as noise, smells, perceptions of safety, access to healthy foods, multi-modal transportation options, and cleanliness.
Interactive Learning with StreetMix
After completing the walk audit, participants used StreetMix to remix the neighborhood block, creating new streetscape designs that support their needs and visions for a better community. This hands-on activity not only engaged the students but also empowered them to think critically about urban planning and community advocacy.
Looking Forward
The weekend was a testament to the power of community engagement and youth empowerment. The students of AGYE showcased their enthusiasm, creativity, and commitment to making their neighborhoods better places to live. We are excited to see how these young advocates will continue to use their voices and skills to drive positive change in their communities.
